Social Activities in Siena
All students are encouraged to make the most of their time in Siena by participating in the guided excursions and activities offered by the college.
To enable students to take full advantage of their stay, the school provides a monthly calendar of cultural activities, detailing the range of sports, local exhibitions, concerts, films etc available. Each month the college makes arrangements to enable students to gain the most from their visit to Siena.
Once a month, an Italian music afternoon and a dinner in a typical Tuscan country house for students and teachers are organised. Free guided tours around the city, History of Art visits and Cinema Italiano evenings are offered once a fortnight.
In addition, a full day excursion will be offered on a Saturday (every 4 weeks), to San Gimignano, Florence, Volterra, or the spa at Terme di Saturnia etc and a half-day excursion to the wine yards of the "Chianti" area.
The college arranges a minimum of two activities per week. One Saturday a month, they offer a whole-day excursion out of Siena.
For those who want to explore Siena's night life we recommend: "Enoteca Italiana" in the Fortezza, near the school (they have a museum dedicated to Italian wines and a tasting bar). It is a very peaceful place with a lovely terrace where you can read and relax. "L'Officina", a centrally located bar, very hip with live music and DJ's playing Latin-inspire rhythms to dance and rock. "Il Barone Rosso" offers food, drink and live music - very popular with young people, with live music and dancing every evening.
A sample of a Week's cultural programme:
Monday: Welcome drink at the school and an orientation tour for new students (every four weeks).
Tuesday: Guided Art History visit to local sites of importance.
Wednesday: Visit the extensive city market, held each week, in the streets around the Fortezza Medicea and La Lizza park.
Thursday: Italian Cinema: Italian films are shown, introduced and explained by the teachers at the college.
Friday: Students and teachers meet for a dinner in a typical Tuscan country house (once a month).
Saturday: Full day excursion: Perhaps a trip to Montepulciano & Pienza, two beautiful small towns located in a picturesque and unspoilt valley.
Sunday: Free day to relax and explore Siena.
