Italian & Wine in San Giovanni

This course is perfect opportunity to become better acquainted with the wide variety of Tuscan wines, to appreciate their properties and how to accompany them with local ingredients.  In addition students are invited to join the college excursions to the most breathtaking landscapes (and vineyards) of the Chianti region.

Start dates throughout the year
2 weeks Standard Italian course plus wine course

Wine Course:
Lessons consist of two 3-hour lessons to be attended over one or two weeks.
Tasting: during the two sessions you will taste six different wines (at least 1 Chianti Classico Riserva), predominantly selected from the Tuscany region.

  • Introduction to wine production (from grapes to bottles)
  • Some "rules" to taste a wine (eye-nose-mouth, the bottle; the farm; the brand; the area)
  • Chianti; between law and tradition - Chianti Classico or Chianti dei Colli Fiorentini?
  • Tuscany; what beyond Chianti?
  • Red, White & Rose
  • Riserva D.O.C.G - I.G.T.
  • Main combinations of food & wine
  • The right glass for the right wines

When there is only one or two participants on the wine course, the college still runs the course, but in this case only 3 bottles of wine will be tasted and the sessions will be shorter.
Should two or three people wish to book this option as a closed group course for themselves in addition to an Italian group or private tuition course they are very welcome to do so.

Like the sound of the course, but want to consider an alternative location?

In Florence (College One), Rome or Milan - Italian language students can combined their language studies with an Italian wine workshop.  This consists of an introduction to Italian wines from across a range of regions plus wine tasting sessions and (when possible) a visit to a nearby vineyard.  Elementary Italian required to participate.
