Learn a Language

Student Reports: San Giovanni

Jimmy / San Giovanni

Six week Italian Standard Course in April at our College in San Giovanni.
Jimmy, a graduate in his early 20's, was a beginner to Italian and wanted to gain a sound grasp of the basics of the language and have a good time.

“ Linguistically I expected to get a firm grounding in how the language works, and to be able to talk easily on a basic level and my expectations were definitely met. Generally I didn’t know what to expect – that was part of the fun!
The lessons were great – good use of games, but still enough basic hard work to keep your brain challenged. The teachers were also great. I thought the situation of the school was ideal, everything very convenient.  The best part of the course was the friendliness of the teachers. The excursions were generally very well balanced, and definitely well organised. The other students were very relaxed which made settling in easy. The only bit that really was a little tiring was being shown yet another Medieval Wall – and this coming from someone who studied Medieval History!
I think San Giovanni is great- the only problem is that trains aren’t always convenient or regular. Apart from that, everything else was perfect! As for someone feeling safe in the town, I think its fair to say the most dangerous thing in the area, are the San Giovanni school students. The people and food are great, the only thing I would recommend to other students is just chill out and enjoy the whole experience!
I was pleased with my accommodation; it was basic but that all I wanted and was expecting, and really all you need. All I wanted was somewhere clean, convenient and comfortable and it was all of that.
CESA were great there was always someone by the phone ready to answer my queries.
Would I go to San Giovanni again? In theory, yes – given time and money. Others should definitely go, provided that they are happy staying in a quieter place. My most memorable moments were the two wine tasting trips (if only memorable because I can’t remember much!)."
