Learn Spanish in Vejer
Spanish College Description
The school building dates from the middle of the 19th century and is constructed on top of ancient Moorish town walls. Large sections of these walls, which were built in the 11th century, have been conserved, including the watchtower, which overlooks the gardens.
The school has two Andalusian interior patios, a garden with orange trees, jasmine and bougainvillea, a terrace facing south across rolling countryside and an enormous roof with views in all directions, from the Medina Sidonia in the north to Morocco in the south.
The college teachers are all native speakers of Spanish, with University degrees, who specialise in teaching Spanish as a second language. The school has seven classrooms in the main school building (these become nine in the warmer months when the patios are included), and another four nearby which are used in the summer for the Teenager Programme.
Temperatures in Vejer are moderated by the closeness to the ocean and air-conditioning is not necessary, particularly in old buildings. The patios and garden are open to students and make delightful areas for studying and socialising, particularly in the busiest summer months. The school has a good collection of contempary Spanish cinema and documentary films and also of books, all of which are available to students. Free Internet access is offered in the main school building and with a student card, discounts can be obtained after school hours at one of the internet cafes in town.
