Methodology
The college’s key concern is to get you to speak!
Of course you will cover the four core skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, with plenty of grammar and vocabulary work included in order to develop all the essential Spanish language skills.
The Spanish school in Cusco is a small, intimate school and generally hosts 15 to 35+ students in any one week. The staff offer classes across all language levels, from Beginner to Advanced Spanish level, across 6+ different ability groups - so there is sure to be a class that is appropriate to your language needs.
We recommend our language students follow a course of at least 2 weeks duration (though of course a longer term course ensures far greater progress!). Whenever possible one week courses are also offered as a group option, but such a short group course is never ideal for the student, so if time is limited, private tuition is recommended instead. Each student will be assessed every two weeks to ensure their progress is strong enough for them to proceed to the next class level. All of the Spanish language school's teachers are native speakers with university degrees and are experienced in teaching Spanish to foreign language students. Many have also learned a second language themselves, so they can fully appreciate your perspective as a student!
The curriculum is structured on nine theoretical language levels, with a natural duration of approx two weeks at each class level. There are classes in grammar, oral and written exercises, practice with video and audio material and conversation on subjects of general, social and cultural interest.
The methodology is the result of years of experience in the intensive teaching of Spanish. Special importance is given to the communicative aspect of the language and its use in everyday life. For this reason, the college encourages students to speak Spanish in class, and whenever possible out of class as well.

A student of average linguistic ability should allow for approximately eight weeks to complete the Beginner 1 (A/B) & Beginner 2 (A/B) levels, covering basic grammatical structured knowledge to be able to communicate in the practical situations of daily life plus an introduction to Spanish customs.
Approximately eight weeks will be required to complete the Intermediate levels (1 A/B & 2 A/B) with its emphasis on grammar with reference to the past tenses and development of conversation skills (and at Intermediate 2 level, the subjunctive).
An additional 6/8 weeks covers the Advanced level (deepening grammatical skills, providing fluency in conversation and a deeper knowledge of Spanish culture, also written expression and the creation of texts.
In reality students chose to attend a short course or a longer “Languages for Life” course according to their linguistic goals, personal wishes and time constraints.
At the end of a course each student is given a Course Certificate.
