Social Activities in Quito
All students are encouraged to make the most of their time in Quito by participating in the guided excursions and activities offered by the college.
A sample of a Week’s cultural programme: dance classes (Salsa or Merengue), presentations, documentaries, discussions, cooking of Ecuadorian dishes, acting out plays, and fiestas with students, teachers and host families.
To complete the cultural programme the school organises weekly excursions around Quito. These include trips to the following destinations:
Papallacta- The hot spring of Papallacta is 2.5 hours from Quito and is in a beautiful valley of the Andes. You can here take relaxing baths in different pools of warm water of volcanic origin and enjoy the magnificent views.
Otavalo- North of Quito is one of the most well known towns in Ecuador. Every Saturday Otavalo hosts the famous Indian market. Hundreds of stands offer tourists and locals many opportunities to shop.
Cotopaxi National Park- The National Park stretches around the Cotopaxi volcano and is home to a very rich diversity of animal and plant species.
Mitad del Mundo, Inca ruins of Rumicucho- North of Quito is the Equator. The central focus here is a 30 metre high monument with an ethnographic museum, which explains and illustrates the different Indian cultures of Ecuador. Immediately after the visit to the equator you will visit the close by Inca ruins of Rumicucho .
Saquisili – The small village two hours south of Quito has the second best known Indian market in Ecuador. It is less touristy and more traditional than its bigger brother in Otavalo.
Activities outside of the college:
Galapagos Islands - Why not discover the natural paradise of the Galapagos Islands with its unique and fearless animal kingdom. You can take a walk around tech island and look at all the extraordinary plant and animal kingdoms of this paradise. You may then like to snorkel and observe numerous fish species in the waters surrounding the island. One particular highlight, being the seals which will frequently swim with visitors.
Tropical Rainforest- By kayak, the winding waterways of the Amazon can be explored as well. A hike through the rainforest allows you to discover the colourful animal and plant kingdoms of the South American rainforest. From the kayak you can see parrots, monkeys or dolphins, nature in all its beauty!
Beaches – Ecuador has a long coast with several nice beaches. The closest beaches are in Esmeraldas where our students can relax and enjoy the nightlife in Atacames or Muisne. For those looking for a perfect place to surf, Salinas and Montanita are the places to go.
