About San Jose

Coronado offers the perfect setting for language students who love the idea of exploring Spanish, Costa Rica and “Tico” life, whilst improving their Spanish language skills.  Language courses can also be combined with Volunteer Work or Work Experience programmes in-country.

A lively, but rural city with a very active community life.  San Isidro de Coronado is the seat of numerous respected institutions, including the Costa Rican Olympic Committee and the Centre for Latin American Social studies and the world-famous snake research centre for the University of Costa Rica, the Instituto Clodomiro Picado.

Home to 60,000 inhabitants, it is situated on the outskirts of the fabulous Braulio Carrillo nature reserve.  Coronado provides you with a clean natural living environment and is close enough to San José to ensure you can enjoy the cultural activities of the capital city (just 30 minutes away by car, 40 minutes by bus).

It appeals to students of all ages, who wish to combine language study with an opportunity to explore this diverse and ecologically rich country.  “Los Costarricenses” (who refer to themselves as “Ticos”) are justly proud of their country’s political stability and their eco-tourism, which lead to many National Parks being formed over 40 years ago.

As a tropical country with both Caribbean and Pacific coasts, Costa Rica experiences only two seasons, wet (May to October) and dry (the rest of the year).  Temperatures are affected more by altitude than any other factor.  Coronado has temperatures that range from averages of 14oc and 27oc.  The coasts get much hotter and more humid weather and can reach 33oc or more.
