History of Japan
Japan is a mass of contradictions. World renowned for the good manners of its people, geisha, origami, Mount Fuji and its obsession with natural beauty, who else could have a national celebration for cherry blossom each year. It is also the country that bought us karaoke, created a vast array of electronic gadgetry and gave birth to a range of infamous cartoon characters (remember Pokemon?). Honshu island is the central and main island of the thousands of islands that make up Japan, to the north lies snow capped mountains, to the south thermal hot springs. There are some 127 million people in Japan, mostly living in the densely populated cities, but there is a calmer, provincial face to Japan. It is a language for business, finance and commerce, but it is also a language of poetry, song and a rich cultural tradition that can be traced back beyond the warring Shoguns to the Imperial Courts of old.
Nagoya, just 20 minutes by train from Okazaki, provides a big city contrast and provides a rich variety of night life. You are sure to find plenty of opportunities to practise your Japanese with local people. If you feel confusion setting in just call us, we are always happy to talk through the pro's and con's of each location, and we would be delighted to put CESA's years of experience at your disposal.
