Social Activities

Whatever the weather, or time of year, Paris provides you with plenty of opportunities to fill your free time. As the majority of college students are in their 20's are older, most prefer to arrange their own social life, generally with new college friends.

The college works with a local company that offers a range of exciting tours exploring the many facets of Paris and different French regions. It offers a stimulating and provocative backdrop for your experience of France and French life. As the college is quite small, it does not arrange weekly events for students in its own right. However college students regularly ask the staff and the tour company for advice on trips and visits and there are always plenty of options to choose from!

The tour company excursions are very popular and provide an insight into the principal areas of the city; Montmarte, l'Opéra Garnier, le Marais, les Passages, l'Ile de la Cité, the Latin Quarter etc (one area per excursion).

Why not stroll along the banks of the Seine or sample Bertillon ice cream as sold on the Ile Saint-Louis? Alternatively, explore the Rodin Museum (home to The Kiss and many other of the sculptor's works) or the Orsay Museum, (including many French Impressionist works) or simply take the time to explore the hidden corners of Paris that the average tourist never sees.

For those who want to explore Paris' night life there is an enormous variety of events, theatre, cinema, concerts, fabulous restaurants and bars etc to explore, in particular we recommend you try a boat trip on one of the "Bateaux Moches", this gives you a great view of the Paris monuments and bridges at night.

SUPPLEMENTARY COURSES:

Wine Programme
Held at the college, (only offered when 3+ students express interest in any one week), the tutor provides a light-hearted introduction to oenology. This is a supplementary programme, for which a low intermediate level of French is required. It explains the basics of wine tasting and identifies the different flavours and appellation of French wines. Students learn how to inspect, smell and taste wines from a variety of famous and less famous regions.

1. At the Ritz Escoffier Hotel, one of the chefs demonstrates the preparation and cooking methods used with different courses, pastries and desserts, explaining each step and technique used. This is a supplementary programme, for which a low intermediate level of French is required. Students form part of a group of up to 35/40 people and participants are able to taste the food following each demonstration.
2. A more hands on experience is offered on the Cooking in a Parisian Apartment programme, where simple and delicious recipes are explained by a Cordon Bleu chef and then put into practice. This is a supplementary programme, for which a low intermediate level of French is required. Only offered when 6 students express interest in any one week.

Local Specialities
The range of foods, both French and international available in Paris is quite literally endless, whatever your budget or taste, there will always be something to suit every taste. The college recommends trying a meal at a small restaurant local to the college, that specialises in "foie gras" and "confit", that comes direct from the owners own farm in SW France, enjoyed with a Cahórs wine.
