Social Activities: Hyeres

Many students make their own plans to explore this beautiful region. Just off shore from the peninsular are the "Golden Islands", with fantastic beaches, wild coves and lovely long walks. Behind the town the whole of Provence is at your feet; old Provencal villages with narrow streets such as Le Castellet and Bornes les Mimosas. There is the opportunity to sample the wine cellars of "Côtes de Provence", discover the impressive cliffs (and depths) of the Grand Canyon du Verdon and sample the perfumeries of Grasse. In addition Nice, Monte Carlo, Saint Tropez and Cannes can be easily reached by train, coach or car for weekend trips along the coast.

There are many sporting opportunities in the area, from water sports; sailing, wind-surfing, scuba-diving or water-skiing to rugby, tennis, horse-riding, golf, squash, dancing or the ever popular Provencal game of "la petanque".

Do not forget to bring a couple of passport photos of yourself so that you can arrange a college student card, which entitles you to reduction on public transport, some cinemas and museums etc!

The college always arranged a welcome cocktail party at the college each month.

Those who want to explore Hyeres's night life will find cinemas and theatre, concerts, several night clubs and discos, karaoke cafes, a range of bars and piano bars both in the town and at the Marina and also a casino, for those James Bond moments!!

The afternoon programme offers the chance to gain a deeper understanding of French culture, placing the French language into perspective, and takes place twice a week, for one hour in the afternoon. Various topics are proposed; French Literature, Provence, French regions, History, Paris, Provencal cooking, French Wines.
